Skill Gaps Staff Week Event

Skill Gaps Staff Week took place on 5th – 7th April in SPINIT Incubator in Split, Croatia. During this three-day event, visitors were able to attend a number of interesting activities such as presentations, workshops and roundtables organized with one common goal: connecting industry and the University.

On the first day of this event, the results of stakeholder meetings were presented which were organized at SEA-EU partner universities. After a round table on industry needs and their involvement in creating educational programs, visitors were able to enjoy a lecture by Dr. sc. Antonija Mršić Radas, who presented the company Rimac automobili and its path from the garage project to an internationally recognized brand. After the interesting presentation, participants  were introduced with Green Sailing Ship project. The project is defined as cooperation of experts from DIV Group, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB), University of Split and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology (FERIT) , University of Osijek. The project was presented by Mirna Draženović from FESB and prof. dr. sc. Željko Hederić from FERIT.

The first day of the event ended with a visit to the shipyard in Split, accompanied by Mr. Josip Jurišić, spokesman for Brodosplit.

The second day of Skill Gaps Staff Week was marked by a workshop where representatives of the University and companies from Gdańsk, Cádiz, Malta and Split discussed the establishment of lifelong learning programs that will monitor the needs of employers. The workshop was moderated by Assoc. dr. sc. Morana Koludrović, head of the Center for Lifelong Learning, University of Split. In addition to sharing experiences, workshop participants concluded that lifelong learning programs should be a combination of professional, generic, technical and learning skills, related to labor market needs, strategically planned and future-oriented.

Afterwards, two presentations of examples of good practice followed: doc. dr. sc. Ante Mandić from the Faculty of Economics, University of Split presented lifelong learning programs and the Living Lab concept and PhD student Jelena Čulić Gambiroža from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Split spoke about the cooperation of her faculty with Ericsson Nikola Tesla.On the last day of the event, after short presentations of sponsored doctoral program models developed at SEA-EU partner universities in Gdansk, Cádiz, Brest and Malta, ideas for a joint SEA-EU industry doctorate program were gathered during a dynamic workshop. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. sc. Hrvoje Meštrić, director of the Directorate for Science of the Ministry of Science and Education about the new industrial doctorate program in Croatia and a fun walk through the city center. Agreements on future cooperation and visits to SEA-EU partner universities confirmed the idea of ​​working together on an international doctoral program and new projects.
